About Us
FoodRisk.org is the responsibility of the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN), a collaboration between the University of Maryland (UM) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A steering committee, comprised of five members from JIFSAN and the FDA, oversees the development and operation of Foodrisk.org.

Mission Statement
Our mission, as described in The May 1997 Report to the President on the National Food Safety Initiative, is to establish a clearinghouse that would collect and catalogue available data and methodology on food safety risk analysis offered by the private sector, trade associations, federal and state agencies, and international sources.
Goals
The goals identified for Foodrisk.org to date include: consolidating risk analysis research data and methodology from public and proprietary sources, assisting coordination of research activities, identifying gaps in needed research, and assisting the development of food safety risk assessment models. While initial emphasis was on microbial pathogens and their toxins, this is being expanded to other chemicals and toxins.
Interagency Risk Assessment Consortium (IRAC)
This group of representatives from all of the government agencies with any food safety responsibilities (FDA, USDA, EPA, CDC, NMFS, NIH, DOD) was organized to help coordinate the activities of these groups and reduce redundancies. At this page you can find the IRAC charter, the IRAC annual plan, the IRAC quarterly meeting notes and the names of the IRAC representatives.
