Microbiological Risk Assessment of Food
Seminar: "Microbiological Risk Assessment of Food"
Speaker: ROBERT L. BUCHANAN PhD, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Food and Drug Administration,College Park, MD, USA
Date: Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Location: Ross Hall, room 643, George Washington University
Microbial Risk Assessment has captured the interest of risk assessors,
risk managers, and researchers worldwide. As recently as 1995,
international food safety organizations questioned whether quantitative risk
assessment approaches were possible and appropriate for characterization of risk
associated with foodborne bacterial pathogens. Today the field has
evolved to be a recognized sub discipline of both food microbiology and risk
assessment. This new tool is increasingly being used by regulators
nationally and internationally.
Dr. Buchanan is a leading authority in the field of microbiological
risk assessment for food-borne pathogens. He is currently the Senior
Science Advisor for the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition and
Director of its Office of Science. His presentation, "Microbiological
Risk Assessment of Food," will describe the evolution of this growing field,
its strengths and weaknesses, parallels to other types of risk assessment,
and future directions.
The talk will be held in Ross Hall, room 643 from 4:30 to 5:30 on March
23. Ross Hall is next to the Foggy Bottom Metro stop at 2300 'Eye' Street
NW. CME credit is available. Please share this announcement with
interested colleagues. This is the spring collaboration with George Washington University,
Department of Environmental & Occupational Health and the National
Capital Area Chapter, Society for Risk Analysis.
